Diary - Day 1 - Tuesday 14 April 2009
FIRST DAY
14 April 2009
74 km

Tasmania UniTour riders, leaving "Art House" backpackers. The trip started here!
Today we went from Launceston after staying at the Art House backbackers. We went to Campbell Town via roads next to the Midland Highway. Wellington Street, Hobart Road turning at Breadalbane to Evandale.
We had a stop at Evandale because the two television companies Southern Cross (7) and WIN (9) were at the 80 km sign to film the unicycle arrival.

TV reporter gets ready
Aubin gave an interview to both channels at the same time (with the reporters giving alternate questions) and both cameras focussed on Aubin. Evandale was a nice historical and town of interest for tourists, but once we departed Evandale we were into scenic Australian rolling countryside with white grass, sheep and tall gums along the road side.

Cruising over the rise
Then the “Examiner” newspaper photographer caught up with Sid, Aubin and Nick. More photographs.

We had lunch in amongst the trees,

into a gravel road, and then out to the highway at Conara Junction with a final bash down the highway to Campbell Town, stopping at the “Gables”.

In full flight!
Some of us were impressed by the road kill, wallaby, a wombat, and maybe a Tasmanian devil, plus an alive large spider.

Riding time (Tony) = 3:59
